Home Care Can Do All of That?
If you’ve never investigated home care services before, you might be shocked at just how much help they can offer both you and your care recipient. Whether you need only a little bit of help or a lot of help, there are options that can work for everyone that helps your aging adult.
Personal Care Tasks
As your elderly family member ages, there may be some tasks that are much more difficult for her to handle on her own. The problem is that some of them may be tasks that she’s not comfortable having you help her with for one reason or another. These types of tasks are usually along the lines of bathing, getting dressed, or brushing hair and teeth. Having someone else who can step in is less stressful for both you and your senior.
Cooking, Meal Preparation, and Feeding
Cooking for just one person can be more trouble than it’s worth from your senior’s perspective. Home care providers can help with meal planning and preparation as well as cooking. That way your aging adult has far less to worry about. Should your senior need help with the physical act of feeding herself, they can help there, too.
Errands and Random Tasks
Even if your aging adult spends most of her time at home, she may sometimes want to handle some errands on her own. But if you can’t be with her, that can feel a little too dangerous to you. Having home care providers going with her can leave your senior feeling independent while still having assistance available should she need it.
Household Tasks
Those little chores at home really add up. Whether it’s dusting, vacuuming, or cleaning out the fridge, having someone there who can help can give your senior peace of mind. This can also keep her from tackling something that isn’t safe for her to do on her own.
Transportation
Is your aging family member still driving? If it’s time for her to consider hanging up her keys, she might be reluctant to do so out of fear that she’ll be trapped at home on her own. One way around this potential roadblock is to make sure that home care providers are available to offer her transportation whenever she needs or wants it.
The more that you learn about just what home care can provide for your care recipient, the better her care ultimately can be.
